In 2008, Contona VOTE or S.H.U.T.U.P. voters registration campaign teamed up with the National Council on Black Civic Participation and their Black Youth Vote campaign to engage young voters in the BLACK YOUTH VOTE FLORIDA SPEAK OUT TOUR.

In 1998 Contona was the recipient Dr. John T. Washington’s Community Service Awards. Mr. Washington was a humanitarian and leader who not only taught a life of service, but also lived it. Washington was a very active community leader and activist. This distinguished award is given to individuals for their leadership and volunteerism in community service.

In 1993, Contona was one of seven youth selected from a nation wide search to serve on the Youth Advisroy Committee. Their purpose was to make recommendation to Community Anti Drug Coalition of America concerning youth involvemnt in community coalitions.
